Custom Smart Display Solutions

Custom Smart Display Solutions

UNI DISPLAY develops custom smart display solutions for equipment manufacturers, product developers, and OEM/ODM customers who need more than a conventional display. By integrating the TFT display, touch panel, cover lens, controller electronics and communication into one coordinated system, our smart display modules become the interactive interface between your users and your equipment.

A smart display is developed around your host controller, operating requirements and user interaction logic — not treated as a standalone screen.

Smart Display Overview

What Makes a Display “Smart”?

A conventional display primarily presents visual information. A smart display goes further by becoming an interactive part of the equipment’s control and communication system — combining five closely integrated layers into one functional interface.

From a screen to a system

A smart display acts as the visual and interactive interface between the user and the equipment. Instead of specifying a panel alone, UNI DISPLAY develops the display, touch, electronics and logic together so the result fits your control architecture rather than working against it.

The complete smart display solution can involve five integrated layers — each one engineered to work with the others:

  • Visual display
  • Touch interaction
  • Control electronics
  • System communication
  • Operating logic

Visual Display

The TFT display presents equipment status, operating information, controls and other visual content required by the application.

Touch Interaction

A touch panel lets the operator interact directly with the equipment through the display interface, turning viewing into control.

Control Electronics

Controller boards and related electronics manage the connection between the display and the customer’s host system.

System Communication

The display system exchanges information with the host controller based on the required interface and communication architecture.

Operating Logic

Software, firmware and system logic determine how the display responds to commands, user input and equipment status.

One Coordinated Interface

Together, these elements turn a display into a functional smart interface that connects what the user sees with what the equipment does.

Designed Around Your Control System

Smart Display Architecture & Integration

There is no single architecture for every smart display project. The right configuration depends on where the control logic lives and how the display communicates with the final equipment. UNI DISPLAY develops each solution around your existing host platform, then integrates the layers that the application requires.

Host-Controlled Smart Display

When your existing mainboard or controller manages the primary logic, UNI DISPLAY develops the display side — TFT display, touch panel, cover lens, touch and display controllers, interface adaptation, cables and mechanical integration — around that host platform.

Smart Display with Custom Controller Electronics

When an application needs additional electronics, we develop or integrate driver boards, scaler boards, custom controller boards, interface electronics and PCB/PCBA based on the project architecture — so more display functions live inside the smart display subsystem.

Integrated Smart Touch Display Assembly

For a complete subsystem, the display, touch interface, bonding, controller electronics, interface board, cables and custom mechanical design are developed together and delivered as one interactive assembly ready to mount into your equipment.

Smart Touch Display Integration

Touch interaction is central to many smart display solutions. UNI DISPLAY integrates the touch system based on the operating requirements of the final product, so user interaction is considered from the beginning of the project.

Common touch technologies include projected capacitive (PCAP) touch for multi-touch and configurable gloved operation, and resistive touch for stylus input and use in wet or rugged environments.

From User Action to Equipment Response

A typical smart display interaction follows a sequence that connects what the user sees with what the equipment does.

01

Information Is Displayed

The display presents equipment information, operating status or available functions.

02

The User Interacts

The operator selects a function or enters a command through the touch interface.

03

Touch Input Is Detected

The touch controller captures the user input.

04

The Command Is Communicated

The display-side electronics communicate the required information to the host system.

05

The Equipment Responds

The customer’s control system executes the corresponding equipment function.

06

The Display Provides Feedback

The interface updates according to the equipment status or operating logic.

Smart Display vs Other Solutions

How a Smart Display Compares

Solution TypePrimary Function
Standard Display ModuleProvides visual output
Embedded DisplayIntegrates the display subsystem into the customer’s product architecture
Open Frame MonitorSupports mechanical integration within the customer’s enclosure
Industrial MonitorProvides a monitor configuration designed for industrial equipment
Smart DisplayCombines visual output, user interaction, control electronics, communication, and operating logic

A smart display can also be embedded into equipment or use an open-frame structure — the final architecture depends on the product and the system requirements. Explore our TFT LCD display modules, custom display driver boards and smart touch panels for related building blocks.

FAQ

Smart Display FAQs

A smart display is an interactive display system that combines visual output with touch interaction, control electronics, communication and operating logic. The exact architecture depends on the final equipment and host system.

A standard TFT primarily provides visual output. A smart display is developed as part of the equipment’s interactive system and can incorporate touch, controller electronics, communication and software or firmware adaptation.

An embedded display focuses on integrating the display subsystem into the customer’s product. A smart display places greater emphasis on interaction and control, connecting visual information, user input, communication and operating logic — and it can also be embedded into the final product.

Not necessarily. In some applications, the customer’s host controller performs the primary processing and operating logic, while the display provides the visual, touch and interface functions. Other projects may require additional controller electronics on the display side. The appropriate architecture is determined from the host system and required functions.

Yes. The display, touch panel, cover lens, bonding, controller electronics, interfaces and mechanical design can be customized based on project requirements.

Yes. The customer’s existing mainboard, controller and interface architecture can be reviewed during engineering evaluation, then the display-side electronics and interfaces are configured or adapted to the confirmed system requirements.

Yes. UNI DISPLAY supports hardware development including schematic design, PCB layout, Gerber development, PCBA development and production, and communication-interface adaptation.

Yes. Software development, firmware adaptation, communication logic and system debugging can be incorporated based on the project requirements, with the exact scope confirmed from the customer’s system architecture.

Yes. Optical bonding can be incorporated based on the display structure and project requirements, so the TFT display, touch panel and cover lens work as one coordinated front display assembly.

Yes. UNI DISPLAY supports custom product structures, enclosures, surface treatments, 2D mechanical design and 3D mechanical modeling based on the final product design.
